Enoteca Regionale Emilia Romagna

Enoteca Regionale Emilia RomagnaItalian wines are known the world over, but some regions have more publicity than others. Head to the heart of Italy and sample some of the overlooked wines of Emilia Romagna, where wine production has been a part of the history, culture and economy of the region since the Bronze Age (that’s three or four millennia). Wineries of Emilia Romagna have banded together to promote their wares at the Enoteca Regionale Emilia Romagna, located in a 13th Century castle of Rocca Sforzesca in Dozza. Not only is the fortress the cellar for a permanent collection of more than 1000 different wines, but it has a tasting room and shop for visitors.

Dozza is a small town, so you can’t miss the Rocca Sforzesca. Unfortunately, the website is only in Italian, but it’s still a good read. Opening times are Tuesday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. – 6 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. -1 p.m. and 3 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. (It’s closed on Mondays, and, like most every business in Italy, the place shuts down for lunch!)
