The Lodge at Torrey PinesThe seventh annual Celebrate the Craft, a showcase for regionally grown ingredients, innovative cooking and winemaking, takes place October 31 and November 1, 2009, at The Lodge at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California. The weekend-long celebration also includes the Torrey Pines Plein Air Invitational, which showcases the region’s natural wonders through the work of artists. Each year, the event brings together the finest plein air (open air) painters to set up their canvases on site and capture the beauty of San Diego. On October 31, guests can bid on their favorite paintings during a cocktail reception and dinner priced at $125 per person.

Road Trip Foodies, however, are probably more interested in the events of November 1, held from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Cooking demonstrations by participating chefs from San Diego restaurants, plus events featuring growers, vintners and culinary artisans from Southern California farms, bakeries, wineries and confectioners. Picnic tickets for that day are $65 per person.
