ind_indpls_fftSometimes, Road Trips Foodies, we need to think about food. Can we stop and have a discussion about how we choose what to eat? An intriguing conference in Indianapolis next month promises just that opportunity. Called “Food for Thought”, it takes place from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. March 6, 2010, in the University Place Conference Center and Hotel, 850 West Michigan Street, Indianapolis, Indiana.

First up is screening of a documentary, “Homegrown”, from producer/director Robert McFalls. It tells the story of the Dervaes family, who run a small organic farm in Pasadena, California. davidshalleckThen come a whole series of presentations, panels and discussions led by faculty at Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis, plus five local chefs, Todd Jameson (president of Slow Food Indy) and David Shalleck (pictured, right), author of Mediterranean Summer and winner of the 2008 Cordon d’Or Culinary Academy Award.

It’s sponsored by a consortium of alumni groups at IUPUI and Indiana University. Cost to attend for non-alums is $45. There’s more information, including registration details, online. The conference is worth adding a detour to Indy that weekend!
