Cooking with the Chef

ohio_geneva_cookingCurious how the culinary experts prepare perfect menu selections that pair with an impeccable wine? Then reserve your spot at one of the Cooking with the Chef classes at the Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio. The first one will be from 1-3 p.m. March 27, 2010 at the Lodge, 4888 North Broadway (State Route 534), Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio. Executive Chef Steven Sterritt (pictured, below, right) will offer an insightful and fun session where he’ll share culinary techniques galore and guide guests as they prepare a sumptuous meal.

sterritt_stevenGuests will relax and enjoy an entertaining class and wine sampling as they learn about unique dressings, soups and gourmet sandwiches. The afternoon will begin with a champagne welcome and introduction by Chef Sterritt and Marketing Coordinator Daisy Hall. During the first course, guests will be greeted by a creamy garlic & herb boursin, aged cheddar, swiss and pepper jack cheeses, candied walnuts, dried fruits and artisan breads and crackers paired with Chardonnay. The second course will follow with French onion soup with jarlesberg croutons and petite greens salad, blue crumbles and candied walnuts finished with caramelized red onion dressing and Pinot Noir. The final course will consist of crab and shrimp cake sandwiches on a toasted ciabatta roll, accompanied by grilled pineapple, mixed greens, lemon aioli and sweet potato fries paired with a Merlot variety. Chef Sterritt will share not only his preparation secrets, but also his recipes.

Can’t make it to Ohio in March, Road Trips Foodies? Additional Cooking with the Chef dates are May 15, 2010; October 16, 2010, and November 20, 2010. Ask for the culinary package (promo code: CULINARY), which includes overnight accommodations for two on the Saturday (with early check-in at noon!), culinary instruction from 1-3 p.m., one wine tasting tray at Ferrante Winery for Saturday evening, and breakfast for two the following morning. Package rates begin at $259 plus tax. Spots are limited (of course).

The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake has 109 guest rooms (the majority with lake views); Horizons, a restaurant with a striking octagonal dining room and al fresco dining – all with a breathtaking view of Lake Erie; a lounge with a rectangular bar; and amenities that include a fitness center, game room, indoor and outdoor pool and gift shop. The Lodge entrance is located one mile north of Geneva State Park.
