German Heritage Festival in Arkansas

Submitted by on April 27, 2010 – 9:30 pmNo Comment

beersteinsStuttgart, Arkansas, celebrates the town’s early settlers during an annual German Heritage Festival on May 8, 2010. There’s a beer tasting (of course!) alongside an exhibit of German beer steins, a bratwurst cook-off, baked goods and noodles, wine tasting, brats and beer lunch, a genealogy booth and lots of polka music.

It all takes place at the Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie, 921 East Fourth Street, Stuttgart, Arkansas, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the day before Mother’s Day. With over 10,000 artifacts, the Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie has exhibits ranging from waterfowl to agriculture and all points in between.

The Rev. George Adam Buerkle is considered the founder of Stuttgart, Arkansas. Although born in Plattenhardt, when appointed postmaster in 1880, he named the settlement Stuttgart for the larger town near where he was born in Germany.
