Top 5 New Culinary Destinations

Divya Gugnani, writing in the Huffington Post has selected the five top new culinary destinations in the world (note: she calls them “emerging”, so we’re not talking Paris here):

1. Sri Lanka: The cuisine of this island off the southern tip of India reflects not only its local, but its colonial history. Sri Lanka is being recognized for its extraordinary spice offerings, notably its complex and spicy curry blends.

2. Hawaii: Not just paper umbrella festooned drinks, but fresh takes on classic dishes, such as making poke (raw fish rubbed with sea salt and mixed with seaweed, sesame oil and chili peppers).

3. Poland: Check out the traditional artisan breads, sausages and dumplings the country is known so well for.

4. Mauritius: Just off the coast of Madagascar, this island nation has a unique blend of African, French, Creole and Indian heritage and flavors. (That’s some of the magnificent tropical fruit served on the island in the photo, above.)

5. Croatia: This nation with many islands in the Adriatic Sea, has some of the best seafood, including grilled cuttlefish, prawns and octopus.

Divya Gugnani acquired a taste for her future in culinary arts while building a career in finance. In addition to a B.S. from Cornell University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, Divya holds a degree from the French Culinary Institute, where she discovered her inner chef.
