Alabama Wine Trail

Road Trips Foodies certainly know that there are wineries in every state of the union. Alabama boasts eight.

Some produce French-style wines (you do remember that the Appalachian Mountains extend into northern Alabama, don’t you?), but most tend toward the sweeter, fruity wines that American palates prefer.

The eight (all members of the Alabama Wineries Association) are:

Jules J. Berta Vineyards, Albertville (from chenin blanc to muscadines and fruit wines)
Wills Creek Vineyards, Attalla (muscadines and fruit wines, but also syrups such as maple praline)
Morgan Creek Vineyards, Harperville (try their blueberry wines)
Bryant Vineyards, Talledega (no website!)
Ozan Vineyards, Calera (gewurztraminer, cabernet sauvignon and peach)
Vizzini Farms Winery, Calera (pinot grigio, viognier and zinfandel)
Whippoorwill Vineyards, Notasulga (muscadines and scuppernongs)
The Winery at Pepper Place, Birmingham (sauvignon blanc, malbec and a bistro!)

You can pick up a map — and a passport — at the first winery you visit. Get the passport stamped at all of ’em and you’ll receive a souvenir glass at your last stop.
