A Road Trips Foodie‘s thoughts turn to comfort food as the temperature drops and the snow swirls outside. Yep — it’s time to set our travel sights on chocolate!

Fortunately, great minds run in the same circles, so there are plenty of events from which to choose. Get out your calendars and figure out where to go in 2011!

Just one event wasn’t enough for the hometown of Indiana University. An entire week of chocolate events is scheduled throughout Bloomington, Indiana, January 29 through February 5.

Special Chocolate Packages are on offer at the Kempinski Hotel Dukes’ Palace in Bruges, Belgium (a country noted for its exquisite chocolate) only through January 30.

For the Love of Chocolate, a dining and accommodations package, runs February 1-28 near Portland, Maine.

Cozy up with chocolate in Michigan’s Harbor Country during the entire month of February! Check out this extravaganza at A Chocolate Classic.

The Hotel Chocolat opens on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia on February 28 (you have made a reservation already, haven’t you?).

The International Chocolate Festival takes place in Óbidos, Leiria, Portugal March 17 through April 3.

The weekend before Valentine’s Day — February 4-6 — is a delicious delight for the senses at the Chocolate Affaire in Glendale, Arizona.

Anytime during the year you can stop by Morley Candy Makers in Clinton Township, Michigan, and learn all about the manufacture of tasty chocolate candies.
