Chez Panisse Turns 40

Gonna be in Northern California in late August, Road Trips Foodies? Get in on the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Chez Panisse, 1517 Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley, California.

For the restaurant’s 25th aniversary in 1996, Alice Waters (the restaurant’s executive chef, founder and owner) created the Chez Panisse Foundation. In honor of the 40th, the foundation will become the Edible Schoolyard organization this fall, with the goal of building a national curriculum for Edible Education in the school system.

Dubbed “Eating for Education”, the celebration takes place August 26 through 28, 2011, and includes an edible installation and cocktail party at the Art Museum of the University of California in Berkeley, seafood and Provençal feasts at Chez Panisse, a retrospective of French filmmaker Marcel Pagnol and a one-day course, “Edible Education 101”.
