Ice Cream at its Most Decadent

OK, Road Trips Foodies, we’re in the middle of National Ice Cream Month. Have you had your indulgence yet?

If you’re anywhere near Manhattan, consider stopping for dessert at Serendipity 3, 225 East 60th Street, New York, New York.

There, you can order an ice cream sundae for the eye-popping price of $1000. Yes, a thousand smackeroos. It includes caviar, a sugar flower, edible gold leaf, candy-coated almonds, chocolate sauce and (of course) three scoops of vanilla ice cream. And, you get to keep the dish (well, it is Baccarat crystal). Plan ahead, though. If you want one of the Golden Opulence Sundaes (that’s it, pictured), you must reserve 48 hours in advance.

Too pricey? There’s lots more on the menu. An apricot “smush” is $9.50, lemon ice box pie is $7.50 and a “drugstore sundae” with one topping is $9.50. Unless you want maple walnut — that’s $10.

Oh, Serendipity 3 serves regular food, too — but, seriously, who’d go there just for a hamburger or chicken pot pie? Here’s a very good reason: they’ll take reservations for lunch or dinner, but not just for dessert.
