Can’t get enough biscuits? Consider scheduling a trip to the International Biscuit Festival, held from 1 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 19, 2012, in the Market Square District of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Individual tickets for the Biscuit Breakfast ($10) and Biscuit Boulevard ($5) will sold that day at the Biscuit Festival Information Booth (corner of Market and Clinch) and at the Biscuit Breakfast Tent (on Market, just north of Church).

Of course, there’s a biscuit bake-off included.

The four categories of competition are Sweet Biscuits, Savory Biscuits, Special Biscuits and Student Biscuits. The Special category is for those Biscuits that are over the top and incredibly imaginative. The Student category features the next generation of bakers and is for entrants 18 and younger. Each category will have three finalists chosen from all of the submitted recipes and those bakers will be invited to bake live in front of our panel of celebrity judges and an audience of Biscuit lovers. The Grand Prize Winner will be chosen from the winners of the four Biscuit categories.

Wanna enter, Road Trips Foodies? The bake-off applications are available online (look under downloads, at right); submissions will be accepted through midnight April 20, 2012.

Those of us who just can’t get enough Southern cooking might want to roll into Knoxville earlier for the Southern Food Writing Conference. Open to both the writers and the readers of Southern food writing, it takes place May 17 and 18, 2012, in various venues around downtown Knoxville.
