2012: Year of Dairy Cows at Indiana State Fair

Submitted by on August 6, 2012 – 8:05 amNo Comment

Star of the 2012 Indiana State Farm is the dairy cow (that’s Buttercup, on the left), and everything about her is on display right now through August 19, 2012.

From the sweetest ice cream, to the creamiest grilled cheese, to the richest, ice cold milk — it’s all on offer at the fairgrounds, 1200 East 38th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana (map).

Do not miss the American Dairy Association of Indiana’s milkshakes: they’re legendary.

As part of the celebration, there are a variety of activities at the fair and online to tout the importance of dairy products in good nutrition — and to the economic health of the Hoosier State.

Your Road Trips Foodie‘s favorite event? The celebrity milking contest (yes, local celebrities will milk cows — what were you thinking?). It’s scheduled for 11:30 a.m. August 15, 2012, in the Livestock Nursery.
