A Doll Collector’s Tea

washingtonDC_tudorhouse_doll-teaDid you know that Tudor Place Historic House and Garden, 1644 31st Street NW, Washington D.C. (map), has an extensive doll collection?

Those of us Road Trips Foodies who collect dolls (and I’m talking adults only this time) might want to include the District of Columbia on their driving itineraries for July 30, 2013. Erin Kuykendall, curator of collections, will talk about that collection over tea from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $30.

The dolls of the collection all belonged to generations of adults and children in the Peter family. Their number includes the rare diorama of wax figures made for Martha Washington by the first family’s steward and cook in the New York City “White House”, as well as a china-head doll, a small wooden doll, and a black cloth doll with sculpted facial features. Beforehand, enjoy a full Victorian Tea complete with scones, sandwiches and petite desserts.
