Culinary Kayaking in Vietnam

Submitted by on March 15, 2014 – 8:27 amNo Comment

vietnam_tofino-kayakHere’s a different way to see Vietnam: a culinary kayaking tour.

The kayaking tours of Vietnam’s Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, allow travelers to paddle to some of the most remote parts of the bay.

Cuisine is central to the experience, and guests will discover the culture of Vietnam through its food — a blend of classical Asian and French colonial flavors that puts a premium on the freshest ingredients.

The tour begins in Hanoi, Vietnam, and once on Halong Bay, participants will kayak every day. Visits to villages take guests into a world apart where people live their entire lives afloat. Kayaks fit right into this place where groceries come rowed door to door and small children commute to their floating schoolhouse by rowboat. The base for this part of the tour is a 100 foot junk rigged sailing vessel equipped with double cabins with en-suite bathrooms, large deck areas for relaxation and a dining room. Each day the chef will prepare dishes made from fresh seafood and other local ingredients.

Dates for the Tofino Expeditions trips are March 20-30 and October 15-25, 2014, plus March 19-29 and October 21-31, 2015. The company has guided commercial sea kayaking tours since 1988.
