Crawfish Festival

louisiana_breaux-bridge_crawfishThe annual Crawfish Festival is set for May 2 through 4, 2014, in Parc Hardy, 2090 Rees Street, Breaux Bridge, Louisiana.

Sure, there’s gonna be plenty of crawfish for eating: fried, boiled, in an étouffée, bisque, boudin, pie or jambalaya, and crawdogs, plus other Cajun favorites (shrimp, crab, gumbo, red beans and rice).

There’s also a Crawfish Etouffée Cook-Off that features cooking teams who vie for the title of Cook-off Champion. Best of all: samples are available once the judging is complete.

The winner of the Crawfish Eating Contest is determined by measuring the weight of boiled crawfish consumed within forty-five minutes. Contestants must display dexterity in obtaining the meat from the crawfish as well as a healthy appetite.

Your Road Trips Foodie can’t wait for the Crawfish Races. As the Crawfish Race Commissioner yells, “Ils sont partis”, numbered crawfish race to the finish line on an eight-foot circular target with “skillful aid” from their registered owners.

Hours are 4 p.m. to midnight May 2, 10 a.m. to midnight May 3 and 9 a.m. 4 p.m. May 4. Admission is $5 both May 2 and 4, and $10 May 3, but you can get a three-day pass for $15.
