Asparagus Festival in Michigan

Submitted by on May 1, 2017 – 8:17 amNo Comment

Empire Asparagus FestivalAsparagus is definitely a spring vegetable, Road Trips Foodies. One place to celebrate the green spears is Empire, Michigan. This lakeshore village stages its annual Asparagus Festival May 19 and 20, 2017.

Of course there’s plenty of asparagus among the food offerings, but also something unique: an annual oral poetry contest for the best “Ode to Asparagus” at 2 p.m. May 20.

The asparagus recipe contest starts at noon May 20; tasty tip: there’s a pig roast from 7 to 11 p.m. May 19. In case you’re still in town May 21, there’s a breakfast in the Township Hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. that features scrambled eggs with cheese and asparagus and homemade asparagus muffins.
