Boysenberry Festival at Knott’s Berry Farm

Submitted by on March 21, 2018 – 8:20 amNo Comment

Boysenberry Festival, Knott's Berry FarmThe Boysenberry Festival is underway at Knott’s Berry Farm, 8039 Beach Boulevard, Buena Park, California, continuing through April 8, 2018.

Walter Knott was the first to commercially cultivate the berry in Southern California, as every Road Trips Foodie knows. That’s why, each spring, the entertainment complex he and his family founded in the 1930s (and is now owned by Cedar Fair) celebrates the flavorful berry, a cross among the European raspberry (Rubus idaeus), European blackberry (Rubus fruticosus), American dewberry (Rubus aboriginum), and loganberry (Rubus × loganobaccus).

The three-week food festival features more than 75 boysenberry-inspired dishes, drinks and more, plus the expected entertainment and family fun of a mega amusement park. The food fest is included with admission to Knott’s Berry Farm.

According to Attractions Magazine, “This year’s culinary lineup includes the first ever boysenberry quesadilla (made with a boysenberry-infused flour tortilla, paired with boysenberry salsa, boysenberry sour cream, sprinkled with cotija and mozzarella cheese) and boysenberry pierogies with onions, bacon and boysenberry sour cream.

“Other items that will be prepared include the slow cooked boysenberry short ribs in boysenberry hoisin sauce, served over butter basmati rice with chopped green onions; boysenberry chicken wings in boysenberry BBQ sauce (pictured); and boysenberry grilled sausage on a roll, topped with boysenberry ketchup, relish and mustard.

“Knott’s is offering an all-new boysenberry boba tea which consists of boysenberry milk tea and chewy berry-soaked tapioca balls served over ice. The boysenberry elote is lightly grilled corn smothered in fresh boysenberry butter, mayo and topped off with cotija cheese. The Festival also offers a new vegetarian/vegan boysenberry hummus served with pita bread and prepared with fresh boysenberries. Sweets and desserts include new bite-sized boysenberry coconut macaroons, dipped in a chocolate ganache.”
