August is SPAM Restaurant Month

SPAM monthBelieve it or not, Road Trips Foodies: some people actually search out places to enjoy Spam — that brand of canned cooked meat made by Hormel Foods Corporation first sold in 1937.

Since August is SPAM Restaurant month, these restaurants all have SPAM dishes on their menus (“each item is ‘FOODBEAST Approved’ for taste and newsworthiness, pushing restaurants to unprecedented lengths of SPAM® innovation”).

Here’s a few examples of what is being offered (for more, go to Foodbeast):

Tamale Co. (Orlando, Florida)
Item: El Spamale

The Duck Inn (Chicago, Illinois)
Item: Spam Mai Tai – A Mai Tai cocktail made with rum fat washed in SPAM.

808 Poke Shack (San Francisco, California
Item: $100 Gold Spam Musubi – SPAM is marinated in miso teriyaki sauce for over 24 hours and then grilled until caramelized. Sushi rice is mixed with honey, rice vinegar and gold furikake

Belly Bombz (Los Angeles, California)
Item: Spam Crusted Jalapeno Mac Poppers – Macaroni/potato jalapeño popper balls, crusted in SPAM breading and fried until crispy. Topped with jalapeño cilantro ranch, chipotle relish, and micro cilantro.

Pokeatery (San Mateo, California)
Item: Spaffle (pictured, above) – Waffle made with shredded SPAM, kimchi, and potato with furikake and green onion. Topped with Pokeatery spicy mayo drizzle.

Flip Sigi (New York, New York)
Item: Grilled Cheese Burrito
