Burns Night, American Scottish Foundation, New York CityCelebrate Scotland’s national bard, Robert Burns, at the 24th annual Burns Night celebration sponsored by the American Scottish Foundation and held in association with the University Club of New York City.

The evening, which honors the Bard in words and music in true Scottish style and tradition, takes place January 18, 2019.

It begins with a Reception and Whisky Tasting by Glendronach Single Malt Scotch Distillery with Brand Ambassadors Greg King and Stewart Buchannan. After viewing offerings at the Silent Auction, guests will then be piped into dinner where a traditional Burns Night Supper will follow.

Kenneth Donnelly, President, Burns Society of New York and Chairman, American-Scottish Foundation as The Master of Ceremonies will introduce us to the world of Scotland’s most famous son, Robert Burns. With full fanfare, the piper will herald the Haggis, leading a procession comprising the chef, the orator and the whisky bearers to present the Haggis. After circling the room in order that all assembled guests may see the magnificent Haggis, it then is placed in position ready to be “addressed”.

Our orator, Robbi Munro, will present a resounding and animated recital of Burns’ “Address To A Haggis”. At the appropriate time, during the line “An cut you up wi ready slight”, with a flourish taking his dirk and piercing the Haggis, concluding with “Gie her a Haggis!”.

Music for the evening will be by Mike Ogotree’s Shortbread, and Sophie Craig of Alloway, Scotland, who has performed on Burns Anniversary at the Burns Cottage and for the Robert Burns International Foundation in Budapest, Hungary.

In true Scottish style and tradition, the evening will conclude with Reels. – an evening of true Scottish style and tradition.
