SchaufeleFounded more than 1,000 years ago, Würzburg is located in the Franconia region.

If you find yourself in Würzburg, Road Trips Foodie, here’s what you must try.

One famous local dish is the so called ‘Schäufele’ (diminutive for shovel). It is roasted pork shoulder and usually comes with a traditional Franconian dark beer sauce, which is the secret of the meat’s crispy crackling. Together with dumplings, red cabbage and Silvaner white wine it makes for a perfect pairing.
