Chelsea Flower ShowIt’s on every Road Trips Gardeners’ bucket list — the Chelsea Flower Show. This year’s edition is set for May 23 through 27, 2017, in London Gate, Royal Hospital Road, London, England. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

The annual extravaganza of the Royal Horticultural Society showcases inspirational floral exhibits and the best of garden design. Highlights this year include an event with Prof. Nigel Dunnett, who will explain how plants and gardens can be squeezed into the smallest urban spaces, and the ‘Fresh Garden’s’ category, which will include creative interpretations of an active volcano and a scientific research lab.

Planned are eight Show Gardens, five Fresh Gardens, nine Artisan Gardens, the “Feel Good” Gardens and more than 100 floral displays.

A pop-up restaurant at the Chelsea Flower Show arranged by the Dorchester Hotel will offer afternoon tea featuring the distinctive edibles of David Girard, head pastry chef. In collaboration with designer florist, Philip Hammond, the signature cake, ‘Premise of a Gardener’ is a flower pot filled with chocolate crumble, white chocolate and strawberries, and comes with a berry and hibiscus coulis served in a watering can.

To celebrate the Chelsea Flower Show, City Cruises will launch a floating garden on the Thames River May 25, 26 and 27, 2017. Its sightseeing boat will be decorated with thousands of roses and a three-tier water feature for those days.
