Detail from Audubon print“Audubon Artistic Adventures” is the theme for this year’s Newport Flower Show, held at Redcliff, one of the mansions of the Preservation Society of Newport County, Rhode Island, June 21, 22 and 23, 2019.

American ornithologist and painter John James Audubon (1785-1851) is said to have declared that he only came alive when “in the field” of this wild new land. Drawing inspiration from his pictorial journal not only of the birds he loved but also of their habitats, the organizers have prepared an “adventure” amidst the blooms.

Those presenting lectures and demonstrations include India Hicks, Laura LeBoutillier, and Sandra Sigman.

Classes in floral design, horticulture, and botanical arts have been scheduled.

Special events include an afternoon tea, planned for 3 p.m. June 21, 2019, and dinner and a movie beginning at 7:45 p.m. June 22, 2019 (the movie is “Green Fingers’ — a prison inmate with a green thumb who goes on to compete in a national gardening competition).
