Trees, La Fondation Cartier, Paris, FranceAn exhibition devoted to “Trees” is on display through November 10, 2019, at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, 261 Boulevard Raspail, Paris, France.

The show continues the organization’s longstanding interest in and exploration of the natural world. It features drawings, paintings, photographs, films and installations by artists from Latin America, Europe, the United States and from indigenous communities such as the Nivaclé and Guaraní from Gran Chaco, Paraguay, as well as the Yanomami Indians who live in the heart of the Amazonian forest.

The exhibition has several large installations and explores three narrative threads:
· our knowledge of trees – from botany to new plant biology
· aesthetics – from naturalistic contemplation to dreamlike transposition, and
· current deforestation recounted through documentary footage and visual testimonies

Initiated in 1984 by Alain Dominique Perrin, President of Cartier International, on a suggestion by the artist César, the foundation is an example of corporate philanthropy in France. Since moving to Paris in 1994, the Fondation Cartier has staged exhibitions, conferences and artistic productions.
