Artisanal Cheese (and Wine)
At one of BC's newest wineries, it's not all about fruits from the vine. On the contrary; at Upper Bench Estate Winery
in the Naramata Bench region of British Columbia's Okanagan Valley, creamy bries and silky blues will surely encourage Road Trippers to linger a little longer over the artisan wines on offer.
Here, it's all about the perfect pair: winemaker Gavin Miller crafts Upper Bench's vintage pours, while cheesemaker Shana Miller churns out sharp and subtle nibbles from the Penticton draw's newly finished state-of-the-art creamery. Drop by Upper Bench and you could, for example, savor the creamy mushroom flavors of the Grey Baby blue with the aromatic strawberry and raspberry sips of the Pinot Noir, match the firmer, creamy brie with the rosemary and rose-hip notes of the rosé or finish the firm, brine-washed gold with the lemon and honey chardonnay.
Next summer, look for cheese plates and choice sips to be served on the sunny patio, but as winter settles in for another season, pairings are best enjoyed indoors. Some cheese with your wine? Just keep an eye out for the yellow building with the big blue roof.
