Nouveau for the Holidays

Submitted by on November 25, 2012 – 4:32 pmNo Comment

Take heart, Road Trips Foodies: nouveau wine celebrations are held in the Western Hemisphere as well as in France!

The nine wineries on the Indiana Uplands Wine Trail will be releasing some new vintages starting November 15, 2012, and pouring through the end of December.

It’s a New World echo of the nouveau celebrations in France. Nouveau wines are the first wines of harvest and are released on the third Thursday in November, a tradition that started in the Beaujolais village of France more than 50 years ago.

If you visit any of the wineries on the third weekend in November — November 17 and 18, 2012 — you’ll get a complementary tasting of the newest vintage.

You might want to get a ticket for “Holidays in the Uplands”. Between November 15 and December 31, 2012, ticket holders visiting the the wineries on the trail will receive a gold ornament with each winery’s logo as well as a grapevine wreath to display their treasures for a special holiday memento of their travels. Tickets cost $35 per person and are available online at any Uplands winery.

In addition to tasting the new holiday releases and collecting holiday ornaments, make sure to pick up a Passport to the Wine Trail at the first winery you visit. After having your passport stamped at all nine, the last winery you visit will present you with one slate cheese serving tray per passport.

Participants are Best Vineyards Winery, Brown County Winery, Butler Winery, Carousel Winery,
French Lick Winery, Huber Winery, Oliver Winery, Turtle Run Winery and Winzerwald Winery.

A map for the trail is available online.
