Susan McKee is an independent scholar and freelance journalist specializing in history, culture and travel.

She writes for a wide variety of publications, both print and online. Recent bylines have appeared in Business Traveler USA, East West News Service, Hotel Scoop, GoNOMAD, Travel-Intel, Road Trips for Foodies, and The Travelers Way. She also has written for AFKTravel, Cruise Current (where she was Associate News Editor), Travel Mindset, ASTANetwork, Luxury Web, The Travel Magazine for Signature, Viator, and Texas' Tribune newspapers. Under pseudonyms, she writes for several publications, including Road Trips for Gardeners.

Susan honed her craft as a general assignment reporter for more than a decade at a major metropolitan daily newspaper before fleeing corporate journalism for the peripatetic life of a freelancer. Although a third-generation Chicagoan (where she attended both Northwestern University and the Art Institute of Chicago), she graduated from the University of California in Los Angeles, snagged one master's degree at Indiana University and another at Purdue University. She makes Indianapolis her home base.

Book projects have included some scholarly works as well as contributions to a National Geographic book on Sacred Spaces and a AAA guide to Chicago. She has also penned a Scripps Interactive guide to Indianapolis, does occasional contract work for USA Today, accepts freelance news assignments and wrote NorthStar Intelliguides for both Indianapolis and Indiana.
